About the Game

Armada: Last Light is a roguelite strategy autobattler set in the depths of space. As the commander of a fleet of customizable ships, players liberate planets, unlock new vessels, and discover powerful upgrades. The journey through the cosmos is marked by escalating challenges, strategic fleet management, and visually striking, deeply saturated graphics and animations. Every battle is a test of tactical thinking and adaptability as players strive to free the universe, one galaxy at a time.

My Design Approach

As the sole designer on a two-person team, I was responsible for every visual and experiential aspect of Armada: Last Light. My process was highly iterative, drawing on my background in product, graphic, and architectural design to craft:

  • Ship and Planet Designs: I explored a variety of silhouettes, color palettes, and animation styles to evoke a sense of scale and wonder, while ensuring clarity and visual hierarchy in the heat of battle.

  • UI & UX: I designed intuitive interfaces and seamless user flows, balancing the complexity of strategy mechanics with accessibility. Every screen-from the fleet management menus to the in-battle HUD-was prototyped, tested, and refined for clarity and engagement.

  • Visual Identity: The game’s aesthetic is defined by bold, saturated colors and dynamic animations, creating a visually immersive experience that stands out in the strategy genre.

Throughout development, I collaborated closely with Brock to align gameplay mechanics and visual feedback, ensuring that every design decision enhanced both player experience and strategic depth.
